Description Ada Catherine Deane trained in nursing at the Rockhampton Hospital between 08 Jun 1925 and Jun 1929. She spent a further year at the hospital as a Sister and Staff Nurse before going to the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Hobart in 1930 to complete her midwifery training in Feb 1931. Following this she was appointed Sister then Matron at the Isisford District Hospital. In 1936 she completed child welfare training at Karitane in New South Wales. From 1937 – 1940 she held the position of Sister at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney. She returned to Rockhampton and worked at the Lady Goodwin Hospital while awaiting call up to the Australian Army Nursing Service between 1942 and 1946. When discharged she held the rank of Captain and was in charge of No. 2 Camp Hospital at Chermside, Brisbane. After the war, from 1947 until her retirement in 1970 she was on the senior staff of various departments at the Rockhampton Hospital. This included appointment in charge of the Rockhampton Hospital Chest Clinic from its inception in 1959 until her retirement.
