Title | Christmas at Rockhampton Hospital ca. 1935 |
Description | The photograph shows Christmas Day in the Rockhampton Hospital Men‘s ward ca. 1935. The only person identified with the photograph is Sister Ivy Baker who is standing in front of the Merry Christmas sign on the right hand side. However, the nurse on the right of the front row is Margaret (Peg) Davis. Because patients were kept in hospital for longer periods in earlier times and nurses lived in quarters at the hospitals, Christmas was a major event for staff and patients. Members of the Hospitals Board and senior staff members usually visited the wards. Santa Clause distributed gifts to the children. |
