Title | Decorated ward for Christmas in the Rockhampton Hospital ca. 1930 |
Description | The photograph shows a ward in the Rockhampton Hospital decorated for Christmas Day ca. 1930. The wards were Nightingale style wards with rows of beds along two walls. In earlier times, patients were in hospital for longer periods than they are now and the nurses lived in quarters at the hospital. Christmas was marked by competitions for the best decorated wards and Hospitals Board members and senior staff usually visited the hospitals on Christmas. Santa Clause distributed gifts to children. |
