Title | Rockhampton Hospital view from Canning St. 1951 |
Description | The view of the Rockhampton Hospital from Canning Street shows the eastern end of the main building with the remainder of the building running for a considerable distance parallel to North Street. The building on the left is the large Outpatients’ Clinic which was constructed in 1938. The building in the right foreground is the Rockhampton Hospital Post Office which was opened in December 1949. A new Post Office building was constructed in 2018 and this timber building has been moved to the Rockhampton Heritage Village where it is being restored. The fence and gates along Canning Street were constructed between 1936 and 1939 using a bequest from a prominent Rockhampton Hospital supporter, Mr George F. Sandrock. The large gates which can be seen in an enlarged photograph have also been relocated to the Rockhampton Heritage Village where they have been rehung in the sandstone fence in front of the Country Hospital Museum. |
