| Description | The photograph shows Rockhampton Hospital nursing graduates with the Chair of the Rockhampton Hospitals Board, Medical Superintendent, Matron and Tutor Sister at their Graduation Ceremony ca. 1961, probably 3rd Feb 1961. Those identified on copies of the photograph are as follows. 1st Row (L-R): Sr Editha Haynes (Tutor Sister); Mr Tom Sale (Medical Superintendent); Matron Margaret Graham; Mr N. F. Applin (Chair, Rockhampton Hospitals Board). 2nd Row: Margaret Densley; Betty Emma Johnson; Lola Smoothy; Pat Robinson; Margaret Scott; Verna Jones; ? Johnson; Myrtle D’Arcy; Jan Glover; Norma Hardwick; Shirley Lang. Thirteen of the students graduated with general nursing certificates and three with midwifery certificates from the Lady Goodwin. This is said to be the April-October Group 1959. Only one available list mentions the name “Johnson”. There was a Betty Emma Johnson who completed the midwifery certificate at the time and may not have been well known to the general nursing students. |
