Description | The Rockhampton Hospitals’ Board had been established by the Queensland Government in 1925 to oversee the amalgamation of publicly funded hospitals in the region under a single management structure. Mr William Thomson, a Rockhampton public accountant and company director, was appointed as part-time secretary to the Board at its inception in 1925 and served in the role until 18 Jul 1941. This photograph. Taken in front of the original hospital building, shows the entire Hospitals’ Board administrative team on 13 Jul 1939. They are (from left) Mr William Thomson (aged 66), Miss Ann Fitzpatrick (Patient records), Miss Anita Joy Lamberton and Miss Doris Hallett. On the right is Mr William Ross Thomson, Mr Thomson’s 21-year old son, who was appointed as Acting Secretary from December 1938 until June 1939 while Mr Thomson dealt with a period of serious illness. |
