Title | Mr William Thomson, Secretary, Rockhampton Hospitals’ Board, 1925 - 1941 |
Description | Mr William Thomson was born in Orkney, Scotland, in 1873. He arrived in Australia with his parents in 1884. After studying accountancy in Brisbane, he moved to Rockhampton. After gaining further experience, he entered private practice as a public accountant and company director. In 1925, the Queensland Government decided to merge all publicly funded hospitals in the Rockhampton area under a single Rockhampton Hospitals’ Board. Mr Thomson was appointed part time Secretry to the Board. He held the position until 18th July 1941. At that time, the Board had decided to employ a full-time secretary, and Mr Thomson resigned because he was unable to commit to a full-time position. Mr Thomson had already served from late 1919 until 1925 as Secretary of the Rockhampton Hospital Committee. Thus he had given 22 years of service to the hospital sector. Mr Thomson died on 5th December 1944. |
