Description | When the Labour Party won the State election in August 1932, Mr William Clayton was one of a set of new Government representatives on the Rockhampton Hospitals’ Board. He was elected to the position of Chair of the Board on 19th August 1932 for the remainder of the Board’s term. He was replaced by Mr L. G. Haigh, also a Government representative, at the first meeting of the new Board on 2nd June 1933. Mr Clayton was an active member of the Labour movement and a supporter of workers’ rights. In addition to many community roles, he was an elected member of the Livingstone Shire Council and Chairman for a number of years. Prior to his appointment to the Rockhampton Hospitals’ Board, he had been on the Mt Chalmers Hospital Committee and Chair of the Yeppoon Hospital Committee until 1925. Mr Clayton owned a timber supply company. At this meeting, mention was made that a large framed photograph of Mr Clayton would be made to accompany the photographs of previous Chairs.
