Mr Owen Daniel, Government appointee to the Rockhampton Hospitals’ Board and Chair 1930 - 1932
Title Mr Owen Daniel, Government appointee to the Rockhampton Hospitals’ Board and Chair 1930 - 1932
Description In May 1929, Mr Owen Daniel was nominated to represent Rockhampton City Council on the Rockhampton Hospitals’ Board. In 1930, he was nominated as a Government representative and on 5th June 1930 he was elected as Chair. In the normal course of events, Mr Daniel could have expected to hold the position for the Board’s three year term ending in April 1933. However, the Labour party won the election in August 1932 and replaced all existing Government nominees with people of Labour or union persuasion. Hence Mr Daniel who represented the Liberal Party in the Parliament was immediately removed from the Board in August 1932. Mr Daniel had also been Chair of the Livingstone Shire Council. This is a large format photograph which was originally framed. It was part of a set commissioned by the Hospitals’ Board to honour its Chairmen from 1925 - 1953. The photographs were hung in the Board’s meeting room. The size of the actual visible photograph is 39.1 cm x 54.3 cm.
