Description Alma Crudgington (born 18 May 1912) was the youngest child of Albert Crudgington and Elizabeth Browning and the fourth daughter in the family to join the nursing profession. She enlisted in the Australian Army Nursing Service on 14 October 1940 and served until 10 August 1943. During her time in the AANS she was part of the 2/9 Australian General Hospital which served in the Middle East, Palestine, Egypt, Australia and New Guinea. In May 1943, while serving in New Guinea, she married Sgt Fergus McDougall. She retired with the rank of a Captain. Alma's initial nurse training was completed at the Rockhampton Hospital between 05 Jan 1932 and Jan 1936. She completed her midwifery certificate at the Lady Goodwin Hospital between 19 Mar 1936 and 18 Sep 1936.
