Description | This is a view of the Lady Goodwin Hospital from the southern side. The tall building is a lift tower located between the Lady Goodwin and the original Rockhampton Hospital building. The Lady Goodwin was built in 1930 to replace the Women's Hospital.
At the time of its opening by the Home Secretary Mr J Stopford on 26 June 1930 the building was identified as a new maternity ward at the Rockhampton Hospital. The announcement that it would be called the Lady Goodwin Maternity Hospital in honour of the wife of the then Governor of Queensland was made on 25 April 1931. The first babies were born on 09 October 1930. The building was demolished in 1986.
