The photograph was published in The Morning Bulletin with the caption "Nurse Betty Francis helped Lawrence Newman to forget his broken arm on Christmas morning at the Rockhampton General Hospital. It was Lawrence's second day in hospital" . Notes with the photograph also ask viewers to note the home-made Gallow's splint (crepe bandage).
