Title | Rockhampton Childrens Hospital ca. 1913 |
Description | The Rockhampton Childrens Hospital was established in 1885 under the auspices of the Benevolent Society. Development of the above site on the corner of Agnes Street and Denham Street Extended directly across Agnes Street from the Girls Grammar School commenced in 1889. The hospital opened with 36 beds but was extended over time to accommodate 62 beds in five wards. In 1925 all Rockhampton hospitals were placed under the control of a single Board. This hospital was closed in 1929 and the children were moved to the main Rockhampton Hospital Canning and North Streets site. Some of these buildings were transferred to the Canning Street site to be used as nurses quarters until they burned down in 1945. |
