Rockhampton Hospital Nurses' Quarters/SAB Wake

The Association and the Rockhampton Hospital combined to hold a Commemorative Wake for the Rockhampton Hospital Nurses' Quarters/Staff Accommodation Building on 25 May 2008. A selection of photos taken on the day can be seen here.

While it was unfortunate that the building which held so many memories for all of those who had been part of its 58-year history was to be demolished, the ever-vigilant members of the Management Committee were able to rescue a significant amount of surplus office furniture and shelving from the about-to-be demolished building. These items will be sufficient to fit out the new Museum and storage area as the need arises.

As expected, the Quarters building was demolished in the few weeks following the Wake and construction of the new buildings is now well underway. This photograph, taken on 30th August 2009 shows the construction site with one new building on the left completed.

The major project now underway is an extension to the northern end of the central hospital building.
